So Freddy finally bites the dust does he? About time too. Let's
face it he was a razor-fingered dickhead who suffered from chronic
pre- menstrual syndrome. His only appeal was to people who enjoy
special effects or watching children being sliced into little pieces
- and we all know there's nothing big or grown-up about that don't
we? Still, it kept a lot of people in work for a long time. But
'The Exorcist' pisses on any of the 'Nightmare...' films, because
there was something chillingly plausible in the possession of a
young girl. Only Beetlejuice seemed immune to that one...
Nonetheless, Freddy's chop'em and wrap'em antics are the perfect
vehicle for metallic music to paint a suitably threatening aural
backdrop. What's on offer here is a collection of surprisingly strong
songs from some bands whose albums you would not normally rush out
and buy. Particularly strong are those by The Goo Goo Dolls,
who have yet to make an impact on the public at large. This could
change. Elsewhere keep your lug-holes scraped back for the wonderful
Iggy Pop and some cracking stuff from Johnny Law. The Fates Warning
track is bloody awful though!
Good soundtrack, shame about the film, eh?
